Duke Energy Center, LEED CS Platinum
Serving as a new gateway to downtown, the project provides a vibrant new urban focus for the city. Incorporating a whole building approach, areas of human and environmental health are addresses by including sustainable site development, increased water and energy savings, responsible use of materials and resources, as well as providing a premium indoor environment.
In keeping with Wachovia’s commitment to environmental sensibilities, the new tower is adhering to the USGBC’s LEED CS guidelines and achieved a Platinum rating. All additional tenants of the building all also asked to adhere to LEED CI standards.
The point has incorporated sustainable design strategies which will earn points for: site selection (Brownfield Redevelopment); development density and community connectivity; alternative transportation; stormwater management and landscaping; water use reduction; optimized energy performance and use of green power; diversion of construction waste; recycled and low VOC materials and certified woods; daylighting; thermal comfort will be controlled; and increased ventilation will aid in indoor air quality.
